FTFC Business Club 4 Blackpool Football Therapy 5

Match Report:

It was a sunny old day at poolfoot farm on Saturday where the tangerines took a trip to the cod armys training ground to play their Business club. BFT chose a fabulous charity in Paphyrus a suicide prevention charity one of which is close to a few our lads hearts, mental health has never been more real of late especially with Covid and lockdowns galore and now with money tightening please do speak to someone if your struggling, your never alone!

Onto the game itself, stand in Gaffer Ant Barrot gave a starting debuts to Adam Weightman at left back and Rob Connolly at right back respectively, also coming in after a bout of covid was the irreplaceable Paul Oldham alongside alumni Sam Allison. In midfield , Chris Bardsley was handed his first start alongside “Tank” Liam Underwood in cdm positions, we had an attacking 3 in front of them which were, Chris McLeod with another debut, Jamie Nay and Captain Dave Ireland and who can forget the in form No 9 Chad Bertram after his exploits last week against the lads from Preston. Shane, Scotty, Nathan and Toby all looked on from the bench and were ready to pounce on this one.

The first half is a bit of a blur if were honest, it was end to end at one point with goals, poor challenges, mistakes and a fabulous off the line block from our new left back Adam, a change in the line up came early and Chris Bardsley went to centre back alongside Paul and from there we started to get a grip hold of the game, Jamie Nay and Chad causing all kinds of problems up front for our opposition with Shane coming on and probably having his best game so far for the Tangerines and Ant Townend pulling off some worldie saves, his bravery has to be mentioned for the sheer amount of kicks to both hands and feet he received when he shouts keeper its his! 4 – 3 at the break!

The second half was alot calmer, BFT played their football and FTFC started to tire out, some one touch class passing between Scotty, Dave and Shane were making the cod lads run around like they didnt know what to do, but it was the home team who grabbed the equaliser and we couldnt believe it yet another mistake from the BFT lads but did we let it get to us no chance, we kept plugging away with some terrific football between the lines, a mention to liam underwood who honestly didnt stop all match and Scotty Martin whos power and strength they struggled to deal with and then……PENALTY 12 mins before full time and the captain stepped up and slotted it home and we held on just , big shout out to Sam Allison who literally headed a ball off the line when it was a certain goal, although it got a bit heated at the end it just shows the passion we all still have for football and the love for this club. The real winners here are the people we can help with what we managed to raise – we go again in April! Sea..Sea…Seasiders! #UTMBFT
